We decided that is was high time to freshen up our website design with an updated look. So we have changed our logo design, and the main layout at the top of the web page has had a new graphical design added too. So far the feedback has been good, and you our customers seem to like it. You may have realised the importance of Google maps, or Google Places listings in local search results. They are currently a hot subject and are being heavily promoted by Google. The upshot of this for you is that if you search for a keyword, depending on the keyword, the chances are that you will see at the top of the page on Google's search results the local Google Map, or Google Places listings. They often show a photograph or image, as well as the company name, contact phone number, and email address, and a list to their website, or if they dont have a website a list to their Place page on Google. This is a very powerful advert, and with the positioning being right at the top of the page, above the natural search results, more people are likely to click on and view these adverts. There are lots of ebooks and things out there on how to get to the top of the Google maps results, but beware they are mostly talking rubbish. The advice in them seems to range from ways of trying to game Google in to putting your listing at the top by cramming the title with keywords, to adding your area and address in places they are not supposed to go. Although the Google Page Layout Update was designed to target websites with a high number of adverts shown in prominent positions on them, in actual fact it also mistakenly affected a lot of other websites too.
