What makes a Good Website?

What should you look for when planning a website? Well we all know that tastes vary, but what doesnt vary are the basic rules of good website design:

1.) Clean Design. It is important to make sure that your website is not too busy, and things are laid out in a logical and easy to read manner.

2.) The website must be easy to navigate. If you dont have the navigation clearly visible, and in an obvious location, then your website visitors might get frustrated and leave.

3.) You must be contactable. We often hear of people complaining about not getting any interest from their website. 9 times out of 10, when we look at their website, we discover that they dont have their contact details prominently displayed. This is super important, dont make your customers work too hard to contact you as they probably will just move on to your competitor.

4.) Make your website memorable. If your website looks just like all the other websites in your field, then why will people remember you? Make your website stand out from the crowd.

Of course everybody's idea of what is attractive varies doesn't it? There is the saying "Beauty is in the sys of the beholder." But the point is that you don't want a website to be over cluttered. When a website is first looked at it needs to be clearly defined and clearly laid out. You don't want the eye to be wandering all over the place, not knowing what to read or where to find the information that they are looking for, so you need a clean, clear, easy to follow design, that's very important. The websites navigation: now this is a very very important point, you want to make sure that your website's navigation is easy to use, it is in an obvious location, perhaps at the side of the site, or across the top, somewhere that will be obvious to find for the visitor. And then when you go to the next page, the navigation hasn't jumped to somewhere else, forcing the customer to have to go and look for it. It is important that they know how to find their way around your website, and it is easy to use.

It is also important that the website is attractive and there is something about it that makes it memorable. Because if your website looks exactly the same as every other website, or it looks more or less exactly the same as your competitors website, well then why should they (your visitors and customers) come back to you, why aren't they going to your competitor? What make your website stick in their mind? So this is very important.

Another important point is that you want to make sure that your contact details are easy to find. There is nothing worse than you have got a website open in front of your, it is exactly what you are looking for, but you cant find a link to show you the telephone number , or the email address, or perhaps a contact form so that you can send through your query. It is worth bearing in mind also that you do need to offer both - the Contact number and the email address or contact form, because there are generally 2 types of people that will use a website. There are those that prefer the human touch, they prefer to actually hear a human being on the other end of the telephone line, they want actually talk to a person, and that reassures them. So if you have got a prominent sales number, or a contact number displayed, they will be catered for, and they are the kind of person that will actually pick the phone and will ring you.

On the other hand you do also get the kind of person who doesn't want the hassle of talking to someone , they just prefer to fill in a form or send an email, and wait for the reply that way. So if you offer both a telephone number and an email or contact form, well then you are going to capture both types of enquiry and will generate all the potential sales enquiries or leads that you possibly can, but if you don't offer one or both of these, well then you are going to potentially be losing sales.

I want an attractive website, you say. Well we are glad to hear it, there is simply no need or excuse for ugly websites, and a quick glance at our portfolio of Ecommerce, and cms websites, and business websites, will show you how we make our ecommerce websites both beautiful, and at the same time easy to use.
